Abandoned Camp Loot and Maps in Minecraft Bedrock
What Minecraft Bedrock abandoned camps hold: common chest, barrel and secret chest loot, the camp and explorer maps they give, and the 18 biomes they spawn in.
An abandoned camp is worth stopping for because of its maps. Every common chest in a camp holds a map to another camp, and the camp’s secret chest holds an explorer map to a bigger structure: a Trial Chamber, Woodland Mansion, Ancient City, Jungle Temple, Desert Pyramid, buried Mineshaft or Warm Ocean Ruins. The diamonds and iron are a bonus. The maps are how one camp turns into a route.
Camps arrived in Bedrock 1.26.50, and the odds below are for that release.
The three containers
Camps use three loot tables. Each one has a different job.
Common chest: travel gear. It rolls 4 to 6 times from sixteen equally weighted entries (empty maps appear twice): four Arrows, bones, cobweb, a Compass, empty maps, gunpowder, a fishing rod, flint and steel, glass bottles, a Lead, leather, a Bundle, rabbit hide, a Saddle and white candles. Then it rolls twice more from a gear pool: bow, bucket, shears, Spyglass, or a copper axe, sword, spear, boots, chestplate or leggings. Last, it adds one camp map.
Barrel: supplies. A barrel rolls 4 to 8 times from bread, wheat, coal, bowls, string, arrows, bones, leather, rabbit hide, glass bottles, cobweb, white candles, white Cushions and Straw Beds. It also gives exactly one of a bundle, a wooden axe or a fishing rod. Nothing valuable, but food and a bed this far from home are useful.
Secret chest: the payout. This is the one to find. It rolls twice from a five-way pool: a Diamond or a potion of Healing, Leaping, Night Vision or Swiftness. That gives you about a 36% chance of at least one diamond. It then rolls 4 to 6 times for empty maps and copper, iron or gold ingots, one to four at a time. Half the time it adds an iron axe, boots, leggings or spear. And it always includes one explorer map.
Camp maps never send you home
The camp map in a common chest points to one of eight named camp variants: Dappled Forest, Bamboo Jungle, Cherry Grove, Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Pale Garden, Swamp and Windswept Forest.
Each map entry carries a condition: it can’t roll if the chest sits in that variant’s own biome. A chest in a cherry grove camp can’t hand you a cherry grove camp map, so following camp maps always moves you into new country. Chests in biomes without their own map, such as a taiga or savanna camp, can roll any of the eight.
That makes camps a decent early exploration loop. Grab the map, collect the barrel food, and head for the next camp with a compass and a spare bed.
Explorer map odds from the secret chest
The secret chest picks one of seven destinations with equal weight, so each is about a 14% roll:
| Map destination | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Trial Chambers | Trial keys, vaults and the Breeze |
| Woodland Mansion | Totems of Undying from evokers |
| Ancient City | Swift Sneak books and echo shards |
| Jungle Temple | Two loot chests behind simple traps |
| Desert Pyramid | Four chests and suspicious sand |
| Buried Mineshaft | Rails, chest minecarts and cave spiders |
| Warm Ocean Ruins | Suspicious sand and sniffer eggs |
On Bedrock a Woodland Mansion map usually comes from a cartographer. Here it can turn up in the woods on day one.
Where camps spawn
Eighteen biomes carry the abandoned camp structure tag in 1.26.50.4. Bedrock still uses some legacy IDs, so the list below gives the current name with the ID where it differs:
- Dappled Forest, Forest, Flower Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest (
birch_forest_mutated) - Cherry Grove, Meadow, Pale Garden
- Taiga, Snowy Taiga (
cold_taiga), Old Growth Pine Taiga (mega_taiga), Old Growth Spruce Taiga (redwood_taiga_mutated) - Bamboo Jungle, Sparse Jungle (
jungle_edge) - Savanna, Wooded Badlands (
mesa_plateau_stone), Swamp (swampland), Windswept Forest (extreme_hills_plus_trees)
If the IDs look strange, the Bedrock biome ID guide maps each one to its current name.
What to take, what to leave
Take every map, the diamonds and the potions. Copper armor is a fair upgrade over leather in the first hour, and the spyglass helps you spot the next camp from a ridge. The straw beds and cushions are new 1.26.50 decor, so grab a couple if you build. The cobweb, bones and candles can stay.
