Minecraft Bedrock v1.26.0.2: Breeding Rewrite, Village Biome Types, and the 1.26 Format
Mojang skipped from 1.21 to 1.26. 647 files changed. 132,804 insertions. 53 entities modified. The version number jumped, and the entity schema jumped with it.
Breeding System Rewrite
The old breeds_with format is dead. Previously, every breedable entity spelled out mate_type, baby_type, and a breed_event targeting the baby. Now it’s a flat object keyed by entity identifier: "breeds_with": { "minecraft:cow": {} }. Six entities got this: cow, pig, chicken, goat, wolf, and nautilus.
The old inline property_inheritance and mutation_factor blocks moved out of breedable and into a new top-level minecraft:offspring component. Every breedable entity now declares offspring_pairs explicitly. Climate variant inheritance on cow, pig, and chicken lives here now. The goat keeps its mutation_factor with variant: 0.
minecraft:spawn_egg_interaction appeared as an empty component on every breedable mob. The localization string action.interact.spawn_egg_baby=Spawn Baby confirms what it does: right-clicking an adult with a spawn egg produces a baby.
The baby_undead Family
Baby zombies, husks, drowned, and pigmen all gained the baby_undead type family tag. On the rider side, every mob that allowed baby_zombie and baby_husk as riders now accepts baby_undead instead. This consolidation hit cow, pig, chicken, wolf, sheep, and many more. One tag instead of two. Add-on creators can target all baby undead riders without listing each variant.
The drowned also gained a proper drowned_jockey component group with behavior.find_mount, plus new jockey spawn events for both melee and ranged baby drowned variants.
Biome Tags and Village Types
30 biomes were updated. The big one: minecraft:village_type, a new component that declares which village style spawns in each biome. Plains and sunflower plains get "default". Desert gets "desert". Savanna gets "savanna". Taiga variants get "taiga". Ice plains gets "ice". Previously this was hardcoded. Now it’s data-driven.
Ocean biomes gained two new tags: fast_fishing and high_seas. Every ocean variant from cold to warm, shallow to deep, got both tags. Mesa/badlands biomes picked up surface_mineshaft. These tags expose behavior that was previously hardcoded.
Spear Audio Overhaul
All seven spear items (wooden through netherite) got unique sound identifiers. The old generic item.spear.use, item.spear.attack_miss, and item.spear.attack_hit became material-specific variants like item.copper_spear.use. Copper spear knockback max_duration also changed from 100 to 165 ticks.
Mobs Can’t Pick Up Spears
The skeleton, zombie, drowned, parched, and husk all gained excluded_items filters on their pickup behavior, blocking items tagged minecraft:is_spear. Undead mobs were grabbing dropped spears and using them. Fixed.
Interaction Polish
25 interact events across entities gained "swing": true, adding an arm-swing animation when players saddle a pig, milk a cow or goat, shear a snow golem, or perform similar interactions. Small visual feedback that was missing.
Nautilus and zombie nautilus got on_armor_equip event hooks on their equippable slots. Zombie nautilus charge attack switched from charge_speed_multiplier: 10.0 to charge_speed: 0.96 (absolute value, not a multiplier). Saddle and armor equip sounds were removed from nautilus interact definitions.
Happy Ghast Breeding
The happy ghast gained minecraft:offspring and minecraft:spawn_egg_interaction components, plus an entity_born event that triggers spawn_baby. Happy ghasts can now breed with each other. The ghastling subtitle strings (“Ghastling coos”, “Ghastling appears”) were already present.
Camel Husk Cleanup
The camel husk lost its camel_husk_with_no_rider panic behavior component group entirely. The panic at speed_multiplier: 4 when riderless is gone. The target_distance field on look_at_player was renamed to look_distance, matching the new schema convention.
Format Version 1.26.0
Every modified entity moved to format_version: 1.26.0. Biomes moved from 1.21.110 to 1.26.0. Items stayed on 1.21.100. The format version gates the new breeding schema, offspring component, and biome village types. Older packs keep the old behavior.
Strings for “Drop 1 of 2026” appeared in localization: “Make lots of tiny friends with a whole cast of cute new baby mobs.” Command macros also landed, letting players bind Alt+key shortcuts to run commands. The baby mobs are coming.
